Fake Half-Life: 3 announcement spotted at Gamescom 2016

It likely refers to some session being held at Gamescom this week, but the internet is already viewing it as one of the biggest trolls of the year.

But, far from being an advert for Valve‘s highly-anticipated Half-Life trilogy closer, the poster appears to have been paid for by a media company with a sense of humour. As you might expect, Half-Life 3 isn’t being announced by Valve three days after they had the eyes of the whole world on The International via a banner at a show. Beneath it lies arcane, inscrutable text (what the fuck is “redakteure”!?) that is meant to follow the “3”, which is separated from the “Half-Life” via a colon (in Cologne, Germany!). Before you sound the air horn, this isn’t what you think. Yes – you read that right. The promotional banner is written in German, but translates to “Half-Life: 3 editors who played it back then”. Instead, it’s promoting two German gaming websites, Giga Games and Spieletipps, whose staff boast three editors holding the very impressive achievement of having played the original Half-Life upon its release.
