Frontier ports RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 to mobile with no in-app purchases

To put this in theme park terms, the difference between RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 and RollerCoaster Tycoon 4 Mobile is roughly the difference between reliving the best bits of your childhood, and queuing for hours to get on an overpriced ride – only to have the sugared-up kid next to you vomit in your lap.

What was worse was the fact that the game totally ignored the laws of physics that make roller coasters so thrilling to begin with.

RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 wouldn’t be the same without seeing your train slam through turns and around loop-the-loops, and this game has that for you. The new design and interface allowed for many new features to come to the game, including the Coaster Cam.

Roller Coaster Tycoon 4 hasn’t received the best praise to say the least, as the mobile game’s upgrade model isn’t the best around unless you spend real money to move things along more quickly. And, more shockingly, it’s Rollercoaster Tycoon 3. There’s even a sandbox mode for unlimited fun without any limits.

But then today, something magical happened, Frontier Developments has ported RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 over to iOS and it’s just like the original PC release. In RollerCoaster Tycoon 4, enjoying the game nearly requires spending a fortune on in-app purchases. It’s also been optimised for touch, which you’d hope for in a mobile port.

It’s available on the App Store right now for $3.99- you need an iPhone 5 or above, running iOS 7 or higher. Even custom-made roller coasters can be ridden using Coaster Cam, giving you a first-person view of what it’s like to ride the roller coaster of your dreams.
