Hundreds arrive for wake of Vanessa Marcotte

The hearse was escorted by State and Leominster police from the Brandon Funeral Home in Fitchburg, where a wake was held Monday, to the church, where the funeral Mass began shortly after 10 a.m.

The Rev. Dennis O’Brien urged mourners to remember Marcotte for the way she lived, not the way she died.

Police discovered her body about half a mile from her mother’s home. She was found dead on August 7, hours after her family reported her missing.

Marcotte was born here and baptized at this church, the only child of John and Rossana Marcotte, a union bricklayer and a secretary. They have said her attacker may have cuts, scratches and bruises from a struggle. “She was kind, compassionate, bright, curious, charming, and vivacious”.
