Jerry Jones, Paul Tagliabue are Hall of Fame finalists

Week one of the NFL Preseason is in the books and now that we’ve gotten our first look at the talent and potential coming when the regular season opens on September 8th, the focus is now shifting to improving on areas of concern come game day for the Dallas Cowboys.

The obvious difference is Tony Romo has been the starting quarterback while Dallas has won four of five, an ascension that sends the 7-4 Cowboys on the road against the 6-5 New York Giants on Sunday with a chance to take a two-game lead in the NFC East.

“He is a long way from Canton, a long way from Canton”, Jones said. “But it was certainly a great start”. Certainly the way he and (Jameill) Showers played, I wouldn’t consider a backup quarterback situation at all.

But now that Dak Prescott, whom the Boys picked at #135 in this year’s draft, showed indications that he could be the #2 guy, having thrown 2 TDs and gone 10-12 (and those incompletions were both dropped by the tight end) during the Cowboys’ opening preseason game on Saturday. “I wouldn’t want to, by any way, deter the progress and the excitement that he can bring to the building of the team and the future”.

At this point, it appears likely that the Cowboys will go into the season with Prescott as the backup to Romo. “I felt good about it, of course”.

“Everybody on that sideline knew that was in front of 90,000 people”.

“The thing that jumped out more than anything else are his poise and composure, how he handled the game, how he managed the huddle, the line of scrimmage, how he managed game situations, did a really good job”, Garrett said.

Even head coach Jason Garrett was extremely impressed by Prescott’s play.

Please curb your enthusiasm, as I am in the proverbial minority that wants to see him produce in games that count. “He made some little plays and also made some big plays”.
