Less than a fortnight after the launch of its coupe sibling, Mercedes-Benz India has launched the AMG S 63 sedan at Rs 2.53 crore (ex-showroom, Bangalore).

Not that this is a problem, because the little S looks suit the C Coupe very well in these official photos released Thursday by Mercedes-Benz ahead of its Frankfurt Motor Show debut this fall. A kinked-up window line at the rear of the auto is also reminiscent of the Honda Accord Coupe.

The interior uses the same stylish dashboard and switchgear as the latest C-class sedan. This is true for the Mercedes-AMG brand in particular which is increasingly becoming popular across markets in India.

The new AMG S63 sedan will come with a 5.5-litre AMG bi-turbo V8 engine producing 900Nm of torque. “We are confident of our strong growth momentum in the Indian market”, Mr. Kern added. This is the company’s ninth AMG offering in India.

It enters the market here equipped with what Ciaran Allen, sales manager for Mercedes-Benz passenger cars, says is “a very high level” of standard and optional equipment. The Mercedes-AMG range includes powerful SUVs, sedans and also roadsters. As for the AMG-modified C63 variant, it will receive a prominent bootlid lip spoiler, a more menacing rear bumper as well as the German firm’s traditional squared quad-exhaust layout. Other options for the C-Class Coupe mirror those available for the sedan, and include features like heated and cooled seats, blind-spot monitoring, active lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control with steering assist, and a head-up display. The center stack cascades down into the console, where drivers find the scroll wheel and touchpad for the Comand system, as well as audio and driving-mode controls.

Mercedes also offers the S 63 with the newly introduced Designo platform. These features represent the most advanced in the industry, and can be seen as stepping stones to fully autonomous driving technologies. A seven-speed automatic transmission is mandatory; at launch the C300 will be offered only with rear-wheel drive, while the C400 will launch with Mercedes’ 4Matic all-wheel drive only. Customers have the choice of selecting from hundreds of combinations of exterior colors, interior upholstery and design trim elements. Performance and comfort features can also be added.
