Terming Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s reference of Balochistan in his speech “unnecessary”, former law minister and Congress leader Kapil Sibal on Monday said instead of addressing issues concerning the nation, he spoke on “vague matters”.

“India and others in the region have already received enough of Pakistan’s trademark exports – worldwide terrorism, cross-border infiltrators, weapons, narcotics and fake currency”, External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Vikas Swarup said. “The first time the UPA did so was on December 27, 2005”, Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said.

After Prime Minister Modi gave speech on India’s 70th Independence Day on August 15, and mentioned about the atrocities faced by the people of Balochistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (Pok); leaders of the Baloch Nationalist Movement felt encouraged and overwhelmed by his speech and is likely to look for support from India, the United States and the European nations against the oppressive Pakistani regime.

Indian troops killed a total of seven militants on Monday in two incidents, five of them gunmen who had attempted a cross-border incursion and two more, who had attacked a Srinagar police station.

India’s reaction came on a day when Pakistani forces violated the ceasefire along the LoC in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.

“Rhetoric from Red Fort and headline management by PM Modi is fine but he needs to tell the nation about the BJP government’s actual “Pak Policy” that leaves even the most vocal supporters of Modi completely confused and bewildered”, he said. We are giving an opportunity to Pakistan by raising the Balochistan issue.

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad al-Hussein Wednesday appealed to both India and Pakistan to grant his team access to Jammu and Kashmir as well as PoK.

The party added that India should aggressively raise the issue of atrocities being committed by Pakistan in Balochistan, both bilaterally and in worldwide fora.

Modi also lashed out at Islamabad for supporting terrorism and committing atrocities on people in Pakistan’s largest province Balochistan and parts of Kashmir it governs.
