This attack comes nearly exactly a year after the UN Security Council passed a resolution to establish a mechanism to investigate chemical attacks in Syria and identify their perpetrators. “Gasping for air, their lives ended before they had really begun”.

A Syrian rescue worker and opposition activists said Thursday that a Syrian government airstrike on an opposition-held district in the embattled city killed at least two people in what was alleged to have been a chlorine gas attack.

“We call for the immediate cessation of air raids on civilian targets in Aleppo”.

But the United Nations says the three-hour windows are not sufficient to meet the city’s humanitarian needs, and has called to 48-hour weekly pauses for the aid deliveries.

U.N. Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura said: “We are available and interested in talking to ensure that the three hours could not be simply as a declaration and then nothing happens”.

Kafr Hamra is adjacent to the northern frontline in the deeply divided city of Aleppo, where government troops have sealed the main route into opposition areas, effectively trapping almost 300,000 residents.

Capturing the whole city would be a major prize for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in the country’s five-year-old conflict. His forces with the help of Lebanese Hezbollah and Iranian fighters surrounded the eastern, opposition-held neighbourhoods in Aleppo in July.

Rebels and militants broke a three-week government siege of Aleppo’s east on Saturday, opening a new route for goods through the southern outskirts.

“Turkey is a very important partner, and we can only welcome what Cavusoglu has said”, Bogdanov said, according to the Tass news agency.

LONDON – Ecuador said Thursday it’s ready to set a date for Swedish prosecutors to question Julian Assange inside its London embassy – a potential breakthrough in the years-long worldwide impasse over the WikiLeaks founder.

The Syrian Civil Defense said one of its centers in the rebel-held part of Aleppo was hit.

Many residents said the attack was carried out by government helicopters.

“There were some problems with petrol and fuel, but supplies came in and the petrol stations are open and working”, Tony Ishaq, 26, said via internet messenger.

Dr Abu Al-Baraa, a pediatrician who signed the letter and spoke to AFP in the eastern districts, said he was forced to watch children “die in our arms” because of dwindling medical supplies and repeated bombardment.
