Law enforcement officials evacuated that sections of the airport and conducted a thorough search.
“There were people cheering and possibly a glass got knocked over and all hell broke loose”, another source told the New York Post.
Police searched and cleared all terminals just before midnight, but did not find anything. They said this video originated as the terminal was already being cleared.
The airport starting resuming normal operations several hours after the initial reports of gunshots.
Port Authority police called in officers from the New York Police Department to assist with the investigation.
One video showed startled travelers scrambling for cover as a team of police officers swept through the terminal, weapons drawn, shouting for people to get down on the ground.
Cummings said the shots could have been blanks.
However, there were no indication in the preliminary investigation that shots were fired. There are no injuries.
