Rio 2016: Five biggest events to watch at the Olympics on Wednesday

A day after a slipped foot off the balance beam dashed the American’s hopes of leaving Rio with a record haul of five golds for a female gymnast, she was back to her hip-shaking best to clinch the floor title with 15.966 points, ahead of team mate Aly Raisman.

She has claimed a team gold, as well as individual golds in the all-around and vault.

It took until July for Efron to notice the legend that is Biles, sending her a good luck tweet prior to the Olympics- to which the gymnast replied: “OH MY GOSH I THINK I AM GOING TO PASS OUT OH MY GOSH CRYING! But she won, and she didn’t steal it”.

“The only thing with which I don’t agree with the judges, and it’s a personal opinion and not a criticism – for me the gymnastics of the second American (Raisman) is more artistic than the first (Simone Biles)”.

Danell Leyva left his coach and step-father Yin Alvarez theatrically sprinting down the dugout and exchanging high-fives with gray-suited officials as the 24-year-old picked up two silvers behind Verniaiev and Hambuechen. “We have the match for the bronze medal now and we will fight until the end to get that medal”.

Brazil hasn’t enjoyed anywhere near the success in the Olympics as the Americans, but the host nation has been competitive in several events.

One off-the-field issue remains unresolved, however. In the women’s semifinals, Germany eliminated Brazil’s top-seeded beach volleyball team, beating tournament favorites Larissa and Talita. After a successful run at the Rio Olympics, Biles received the only prize a teenage girl would gush at over more than a couple of Olympic medals, a kiss from Zac Efron. The Serbs raced to midcourt in celebration after a desperation put-back by Australia was off the mark and they won 73-71. The Australian women had medaled in every Olympics dating to 1996.

– CLUTCH CROATIAN: Sandra Perkovic escaped early elimination twice in as many days before producing last-ditch throws to win the women’s discus. She became frustrated after hitting the protective netting but came through with a throw of 69.21 meters to repeat as Olympic champion. Its women’s team won gold Tuesday night.
