AT&T hikes prices for some plans, but raises data caps

“After all your high-speed data allotments are used, all data usage is slowed to a max of 128 Kbps (2G speed) for the rest of the bill cycle”. AT&T said the new AT&T Mobile Share Advantage plans will offer more data at the same price of its existing Mobile Share Value plans.

“We now offer a new 25GB plan for $190 per month for 4 smartphone lines (previously $235 per month) and our 30GB plan is now $215 per month for 4 smartphone lines (previously $285 per month)”, writes AT&T. The new Mobile Share Advantage Plans will include features of the previous Mobile Share Value Plans, including unlimited domestic talk and text, but include more data at a lower cost per megabyte than some other AT&T plans.

Instead of charging customers for an additional 1GB of data each time they use more than their monthly allotment, AT&T will allow customers to use rollover data that’s leftover from the prior month.

It’s fair to say that AT&T pays close attention when the number one wireless carrier makes changes to its data plans (and vice versa). Previously you’d pay $25 per month per phone on plans of 5GB or less and $15 per month on plans of 15GB or more. Now, customers will pay $20 a month per line, unless they still have a discounted phone under two-year contracts, which wireless companies are phasing out. Those customers will still benefit from the $5-per-line reduction. Now, AT&T will slow down speeds instead after the cap is reached.

Last year, T-Mobile raised its rates as well, while calling them greater values with more data.
