Britain’s Kenny wins keirin gold to take haul to six

Laura is bubbly, chatty, just as you see in her interviews. He won medals in five consecutive Olympic Games from 1996 to 2012, including four successive golds between Sydney 2000 and London 2012.

“It’s fantastic, obviously. I’m really happy for Laura”, Kenny said.

Britain’s Jason Kenny won the men’s track cycling keirin on Tuesday, taking his gold medal haul to six and equalling Chris Hoy’s record for the country’s most Olympic titles. “I’d love her to bits even if she was rubbish, but she’s not”.

“But even with all the talent and potential that he had, I don’t think we realised just how special this man was going to be. It just started to snowball”.

Marchant came third in the women’s sprint, behind fellow Brit Becky James and Germany’s Kristina Vogel, marking a significant moment for the cycling team…

“It seems they do nothing for three years, then they start at the Olympics and kill us”.

Callum Skinner was caught out in his heat in the keirin and forced to go to a last-chance repechage. Kenny also won gold in the team pursuit and men’s sprint, adding to his silver and gold medals from Beijing, and two golds from London.

The bigger intrigue was who would take silver.

It meant she had a healthy cushion going into the frenetic points race, a 100-lap ride where sprints offer points.

The men’s omnium also got underway on Sunday with Mark Cavendish representing Team GB.

“Jolien is an incredible racer”. Despite his best efforts to escape off the front and gain a lap during the points race, the best he could manage was fourth through a multitude of sprint primes.

3. Just two of the power couple’s gold medals.

“He’s most certainly one of the most outstanding British athletes of all time”, said Dyer.

With a route that has been blasted for its risky descents, the Rio road races over the weekend have caused so much controversy that the UCI has been forced to leap to its defence.

But replays showed it was too close to call between Kenny and Malaysian rider Azizulhasni Awang as to who had overtaken the bike first, and so all riders were allowed to restart the race. Judges reviewed video for several minutes, and some thought they would be disqualified although they were ultimately granted a full-field restart.

The gun fire indicated an infringement and it appeared Kenny was in danger of being disqualified for illegally passing the motorised Derny bike which ramps up the pace before leaving the track with two-and-a-half laps to go.
