Homecoming celebration awaits Olympic swimmer Simone Manuel

Generations of gymnasts later, her body type and style are the sport’s gold standard, embodied by the Biles, 4 feet 8, the three-time defending world all-around champion and prohibitive favorite to win the Olympic all-around.

If not for Biles, it may have been Raisman stealing the show at these Games.

“I think it was after all-around and before floor, [teammate] Laurie Hernandez was like, ‘If you get silver again, you’re the best because Simone doesn’t count, ‘ ” Raisman recalled with a laugh.

Hamblin then made her way to the finish, and D’Agostino limped along behind her to the line. As she’s shot to fame, Biles hasn’t just been winning medals, but interacting with some of her favourite stars. Her five total medals tie the most for an American female gymnast in a single Olympics, and her four golds match an Olympic record shared by four others.

She added a bronze in the balance beam Monday in what marked the first day of a Summer Olympics since 2008 the United States didn’t win a gold medal.

But Efron might be an even bigger fan of Biles.

“I’m not disappointed in the medal that I received because anyone would love to have a bronze at an Olympics Games”, Biles said. She was appearing on The Ellen Degeneres Show back in March, and Ellen asked her: “Is it just ’cause he’s gorgeous, is that why you like him?” to which she replied: “Yes!”

True stardom awaits her once she returns home, a notion Biles is vaguely aware of but trying to tune out. “I always thought how special London was”.

“This loss won’t take away from all that we have done to get here”, Marta said.

– Team USA’s Caleb Paine has won the bronze medal in Finn class. Efron has been hugely vocal in his support of the US Gymnastics team, which hasn’t gone unnoticed by the medal-hoarding teenager. She finished behind Great Britain’s Laura Trott and ahead of Belgium’s Jolien D’Hoore.
