Britain retain cycling team pursuit gold in world record

Despite ruption in the British Cycling camp in the lead-up to Rio, including Wiggins’ old mentor and team director Shane Sutton standing down after a discrimination controversy, Britain’s dominance on the boards continues.

The king may be going off into retirement but Britain is not done with track cycling domination.

The 31-year-old Manxman, the reserve rider for the team pursuit, completed a training session earlier on Friday and was not present when Wiggins and company arrived at the velodrome.

In the boxing ring Pat McCormack began his campaign in the Rio Olympics with a clattering win over Kazakhstan’s Ablaikhan Zhussupov in the light-welterweight category.

Before Rio, Wiggins was tied with fellow cyclist, and fellow knight, Chris Hoy (6-1-0) on seven medals as Britain’s most-decorated Olympian.

Bryony Page took a superb and unexpected silver medal in the women’s trampoline, becoming the first Briton to win a medal in the discipline at Olympic or World level. If I have to go to the job centre on Monday morning and get a job, I can always say I’ve got Olympic bronze.

“Ed and Burkey are two of the most underrated athletes I have ever raced with”. Skinner drew the inside starting position but used his strength to stay ahead, crossing the line almost a full bike length ahead, capping off an excellent two day at his maiden Olympics. “I honestly do not know where he came from”.

She subsequently alleged Sutton told her to “go and have a baby”, before others, including Victoria Pendleton, spoke out in support of Varnish. Para-cyclist Darren Kenny also alleged that he heard Sutton refer to members of the disability team in derogatory terms. “I’ll be hungover tomorrow”, said Sir Bradley.

“It was more about what it meant personally to me”. “Sixteen years I’ve been coming here and I had to retire to get nominated”. “So obviously that’s got a bit blown up”, Wiggins said. How it’s written isn’t necessarily how it’s said.

“I wanted to go out on top, and it was one of the best finals ever”, enthused Wiggins, who also paid tribute to the losing finalists. I 100 per cent would be.

“Day to day he came through it and to go from that to win in such an wonderful race that was so close – has left us speechless. I never underestimated it for one minute, I gave up the road, and gave up the big salary and I was just a number again”.

Skinner was the first to hold the Olympic record with a time of 9.703 to send the crowd in the velodrome wild.

Sir Bradley Wiggins: Who has he beaten to become Britain’s most decorated Olympian? The women’s team sprint is the one anomaly. When it does, Wiggins expects Sutton to return to his post.

“All this stuff is a result of his work”.

And Wiggins said: “This whole sexism thing”.

And he puts that haul down to Sutton, who sent him a motivational text branding him “the greatest” before his moment of history on Friday. “Deliver. You’ll become the greatest by end of play because you are”. “The records come naturally if you don’t chase them, just chase the opposition”.
