The industry trade group “Airlines for America” is predicting a 4% boost in labor day holiday travel via the skies.

If you’re hitting the skies for Labor Day weekend, you can expect to see more travelers in the air than during the same time period past year.
That’s about 2.2 million passengers a day on average.
To accomodate the spike in travel, Medina says airlines will expand their schedules and seat availability.
“We think we’re in a good place, but we are remaining vigilant”, said John Heimlich, chief economist at Airlines for America.
According to the trade group, September 2 and September 1 are expected to be the busiest days during the seven-day holiday travel period. Over the first half of 2016, which doesn’t include the recent outages, airlines canceled only 1 percent of flights and arrived on-schedule 82 percent of the time.
Many airlines, benefiting from lower fuel prices, have been reporting strong profits and are investing heavily in upgrading their fleets and products.

A4A says fares dropped 5.2 percent in 2015, and have slipped another 6 percent so far this year.
