Donald Trump campaign shakes up leadership in latest sign of tumult

Trump told the Associated Press that he appointed Bannon and Conway because they are “big people” who can help him overcome Clinton.

Under Bannon, Breitbart News emerged as a leading defender of Trump.

His harnessing of media megaphones led Bloomberg to call him “the most risky political operative in America” in a profile past year.

Clinton is campaigning and fundraising in OH, a key battleground state.

The addition of Bannon and Conway mark “a great day for Donald Trump because he can now be free to continue speaking truth to power”, said David Bossie, the leader of a pro-Trump super PAC.

The appointment showed that the Republican nominee had won the fight with the party’s establishment to “let Trump be Trump”. And you know, I hope you will talk to any of your friends who are flitting with the idea of voting for Donald Trump.

“I don’t want to pivot”.

“When people started saying he was temperamentally unfit, he called Hillary the same”.

While Trump’s campaign staff publicly insists there is plenty of time left for the Republican to change the trajectory of the race, the candidate is facing a shrinking timeline.

Conway has recently appeared on many news programs on behalf of the Trump campaign and recently told Time she thinks Trump will be better for American women than Hillary Clinton.

Bannon’s arrival will be seen, at least by some, as a demotion of Manafort, the seasoned Republican adviser returning to presidential politics for the first time in 20 years after working as a lobbyist for controversial clients.

It is the second personnel shake-up at the top since June 20 when Trump dropped his first manager, Corey Lewandowski, who was sidelined by Manafort and courted controversy after allegedly grabbing a Breitbart reporter.

This doesn’t come as a surprise to those of us following the campaign. “It worked very well in the primaries”. “Paul remains as chairman”.

The move came just two days after Manafort was accused by American daily The New York Times of receiving nearly $13 million from a pro-Russian Ukrainian party over the past six years.

Trump has resisted pressure to change his campaign style. Robby Mook, Clinton’s campaign manager, has been in his job since the outset of the campaign, and the same is true for nearly all of her campaign’s leadership.

[Bloomberg’s Joshua] Green also reported that Andrew Breitbart had “described Bannon, with honest admiration, as the Leni Riefenstahl of the Tea Party movement”.

Mr Trump, whose campaign is built on his persona as a victor, said several times on Wednesday that the campaign was “doing well”, and said his speech hours earlier in Wisconsin on Tuesday was well received.

From his perch at Breitbart, Bannon himself has quietly built a reputation as a major GOP operator. Through it all, Bannon was criticized for allegedly showing too much deference to the Trump campaign, instead of his reporter. “Hillary Clinton has spent $100 million on ads, and I’ve spent nothing”, Mr. Trump said.
