The Martin County Sheriff’s Office says Austin Harrouff, a 19-year-old Alpha Delta Phi brother at Florida State University, was found biting at the face of John Stevens, 59, at his Tequesta home late Monday.

“He was exhibiting abnormal levels of strength”, Snyder said at a Tuesday morning news conference.

Harrouff was also taken to the hospital, where the sheriff said he was making “animal-like sounds” when he arrived. Stevens died in the driveway. The muscular student stabbed the 50-something pair multiple times with a large pocket knife he often carried, as well as other instruments he found in the garage. A neighbor who tried to intervene and rescue them was stabbed in the attack, but managed to call the emergency hotline and is now recovering in a hospital.

Locally, he’s talked to neighbors, and he’s seen the shocked looks on their faces. That’s what they were likely doing when Harrouff came across them.

Snyder said the killings appeared to be a “completely unprovoked and random attack”.

“Whether he will ultimately survive is just not known at this time”, Snyder said Tuesday night.

Austin Harrouff, 19, has been arrested and charged with the grisly crime.

“They are overcome with grief and are dealing with the fact of what their son did and now they dealing with the fact that they may lose their son entirely”, Snyder said. She is fine, has no connection to Harrouff and did not recognize him when shown his photo, Snyder said.

Florida police are investigating a double homicide with a grisly twist this week after a couple was randomly attacked Monday night.

“Flakka has also been referred to as “$5 insanity”, “powdered psychosis” and “total mind melt”.

This story will be updated when more information becomes available.

Until recently, the drug was easily obtained online from Chinese retailers. Mina was told she had the option of reporting her son missing. At least 16 deaths have been attributed to the cheap drug since September.

Flakka has been associated with spiking body temperatures that can cause users to take off their clothes.

But slight changes in purity or dose resulted in weird or deadly reactions.

“He was trying to break up the fight – the guy turned on him”, the man says.

It took a Taser, multiple deputies and a K9 unit to subdue Harrouff so officers could pull him from 59-year-old John Stevens, from whose face the teen was biting pieces of flesh, according to a post on the Tequesta Police Department’s Facebook page. In a small amount the drug provides euphoria, stimulation, and hallucinations.

While blood tests are still underway and have not yet been conclusive, some have speculated Harrouff was under the influence of a substance called Flakka, a stimulant that has effects similar to PCP and angel dust.

Harrouff was out to dinner with his parents at the sports bar Duffy's West when he became agitated and left during the meal prompting his parents to call the police
