3 new non-travel related cases in Florida
Texas has reported more than 100 cases of Zika associated with travel to areas with active transmission.

The county recommends following the CDC’s guidelines, especially when planning trips to known Zika sites.
The virus is transmitted to people primarily through the bite of an infected Aedes species mosquito.
The most effective way to prevent and control the Zika virus is to deny mosquitoes the habitat they require by removing all sources of water around the home, and encouraging your friends and neighbors to do the same.
But the World Health Organization says the overwhelming majority of cases of the virus in the island nation are suspected and not confirmed. “Pregnant women should avoid travel to Zika-affected areas and anyone who travels to areas where the Zika virus is spreading should take precautions to prevent infection”.
Last week, CDC spokeswoman Erin Sykes said, “If we see new Zika clusters that are linked to this cluster outside of the one-mile radius [of Wynwood] or people who became ill with links to this specific one-mile radius area after mid-August, then this would be a cause for additional investigation and action”.
“For many years the Orange County Department of Health has had a mosquito surveillance program in place”, said Ericcson. Riverside County vector control said a single mosquito was caught in a trap near Yale Street and Johnston Avenue, in the unincorporated area near Hemet on Monday. Residents and visitors are also encouraged to use repellents while outdoors.
We hate mosquitoes so much that in Salt Lake City, and many other places, there is a special unit of government devoted to no other objective than to cut down on the number of the little pests. “I think there’s not just Zika transmission going on in Miami, it’s going on all up and down the Gulf Coast and in Arizona, it’s just that nobody’s looking”.
Until this point, the phrase “travel-related Zika” has referred exclusively to travel outside the continental U.S., Dr. LaPook said.
Be aware of mosquitoes during times that they are active, dawn, daytime, dusk and evening hours. So far, no mosquitoes have been found locally with the Zika virus.
The Department of Health urges residents to drain standing water weekly, no matter how seemingly small.
