The Alabama Department of Public Health said Tuesday that 25 Alabamians in 16 counties have tested positive for the Zika virus, including one case each in Lawrence, Limestone and Morgan counties.

The number of Zika infections spread by mosquitoes in Florida remains at 30 cases, with 27 of those reported in Miami-Dade, two in Broward and one in Palm Beach.

On Monday, Texas health officials announced a confirmed case of the Zika virus among an individual who had traveled to the affected area in Miami.

“This is the first Texas case to be linked to travel within the continental United States”, said the Texas health department in a release.

The two new cases are believed to have come from the Zika zone in Wynwood, according to the Florida Department Of Health (DOH).

About four out of five of those infected with Zika do not show symptoms and the rest have mild cases. When New York City implemented its Zika action plan in April of this year, it tested over 3,400 at-risk pregnant women, the Associated Press reported. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the Zika virus outbreak is likely to spread throughout almost all the Americas.

Even though people infected with Zika virus do not usually feel sick, if a mosquito bites an infected person while the virus is still in that person’s blood, it can still spread the virus by biting another person. So if he’s getting bitten by mosquitoes now, it’s been over a week.

While the Texas infection case serves as the first instance of interstate transmission in the United States, it doesn’t necessarily mean that there is already a Zika epidemic in the country. They include joint pain, fever, rash, red eyes (conjunctivitis), headache and muscle pain.

The mosquito-borne Zika is particularly unsafe to pregnant women because it can cause severe birth defects.

The Snohomish Health District is working closely with her health care provider to ensure that she follows Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines.

Many people may not be aware they even have it, according to the CDC.
