Trump to receive first classified briefing Wednesday

“The information we received was obviously classified”, he said, “but I don’t believe that that information was of the same scope and specificity that the president or vice president or other national security leaders get once they’re actually in office”.

Typically, the president delegates full control of the briefings to the intelligence community ― which makes a deliberate effort to ensure that the nominees receive the same information.

The briefing is created to give him a slightly more detailed picture of worldwide threats than the one US analysts regularly present in public; it will not reveal sensitive intelligence operations, senior USA officials tell NBC News.

Donald Trump’s first briefing is expected to happen at a secure location at the FBI’s NY field office.

Trump will be joined by New Jersey Mayor Chris Christie and advisor former Defense Intelligence Agency Director Michael Flynn.

The briefing by intelligence officials will take place at Federal Bureau of Investigation offices in NY, the source said. The office of the Director of National Intelligence, which oversees the briefings, would not comment on when they would take place.

Trump, the billionaire developer, has proven loose-lipped on the campaign trail.

The Director of National Intelligence is the head of the intelligence department, and serves as adviser to the president as well as the Homeland Security Council and National Security Council.

Donald Trump said Wednesday he was wary of relying on the US intelligence community because he does not trust them and believes they’ve made “bad decisions”. You’ve got to give them the information, ‘ he said.

Such freaky proclamations led former CIA Director Michael Hayden to question in May whether Trump might blurt out classified information during one of his unscripted speeches. And – unlike Trump – both would have had to receive security clearances to attend the briefing.

Politico notes that following the November election, the president-elect will receive more detailed briefings “depending on the president-elect’s interests” that will include the CIA’s enterprise operations and capabilities overseas. In 1952, he decided candidates should be given the option of receiving the briefings. Last month, Trump said Russian Federation should “find the 30,000 emails that are missing” from Hillary Clinton’s email account.
