Sending out a strong message to the government across the border, India has decided not to exchange candies this Independence Day.
Earlier in July, Pakistan and Indian forces had foregone the traditional exchange of candies on Eid.
Border guarding forces of the two countries have been following a tradition of exchanging candies on national festivals and other events at the IB in Jammu and along the Attari-Wagah border in Amritsar in Punjab and few other locations in Rajasthan and Gujarat.
As part of the Golden Jubilee Year of Border Security Force, the sentinels of Indian borders will be planting more than 4 lakh saplings at its units and head quarters across the country within just 30 minutes, today.
However, BSF’s Inspector General (IG) Frontier Anil Paliwal announced on Wednesday that, “This time this thing will not happen, we will neither receive nor give candies to Pakistan Rangers on the occasions of Independence Days of both countries”. Extra vigil has been mounted on the borders. We have also got extra security forces from the headquarters and all of our officers are in field. “Tight vigil is being maintained day and night”, said Paliwal.
The latest development comes in the backdrop of two terror incidents in Gurdaspur in Punjab and Udhampur in Jammu and Kashmir, where it is believed that militants crossed over from Pakistani side to perpetrate violence.

“Diplomatically, India has repeatedly emphasised, including at the highest level, the need for Pakistan to uphold the sanctity of the Line of Control (LC) and abide by the ceasefire commitment of 2003 along the global Border and LC”, he said.
