Adam Johnson Out for Eight Weeks With Shoulder Injury
Fletcher has confirmed he has had preliminary discussions with Sunderland over his situation but, after two seasons dogged by injury, the 28-year-old insists his focus is on staying fit and scoring goals.

When asked about his future, Fletcher told the Echo: “I haven’t really thought about it to be honest”.
Sunderland now have two home games on the bounce, and with a full stadium behind them, they will be desperate to pick up their first points of the season.
But Fletcher is more than happy to have that number on his back, since it has already proved lucky for him.
The former Manchester City star took over Lee Cattermole’s role as captain when the former left the pitch against Leicester City on Matchday 1 of the Premier League season, a testament to Johnson’s importance to the squad.
“And it’s my birthday too so why not?”
“They [the players] can see they can still do it and that’s what we need”.
“The change (of numbers) wasn’t down to me”.
Whilst the performance itself was terrible, Defoe was one of the standout performers for the team, finding the back of the net in the first game of the season, an accomplishment he was proud of, commenting that “It’s always nice to score”.
“There are still a fair few games to go”.
Sunderland have been working on an orthodox 4-4-2 in training this week, and Fletcher hopes he gets the nod against the Canaries. We have to show that we can do much better.
“I think he’s just biding his time really and hopefully it’ll be this weekend”.
“And with the four behind you, you get a lot of support”.

“However, that is down to the gaffer, not me”.
