Next round of Papal visit transit passes on sale via lottery

“Unfortunately, these safety and capacity limitations mean only a fraction of the anticipated passenger demand can be met”, NJ Transit Executive Director Ronnie Hakim said. “This will not be your average travel week”, Hakim said. No special ticketing is needed. All tickets must be purchased in advance as no tickets can be purchased on Saturday and Sunday September 26-27.

On Saturday and Sunday of the visit, special tickets will be required to travel on the Atlantic City Line and the RiverLINE.

Next door, JR Johnson, the manager of Holt’s Cigars, was pleased to find there is no fence blocking access to his store, but, “the major issue we face is how we will get our staff into the city as the majority of us live in the New Jersey and Pennsylvania suburbs and rely on public transportation and/or drive in”. The AC Line special tickets will cost $30. However, pedestrians will be permitted to walk across the bridge to Philadelphia.

– The RiverLINE will operate on a 15-minute schedule on Saturday and Sunday in both directions between Trenton and Walter Rand Transportation Center in Camden with no service in downtown Camden between WRTC and the Entertainment Center.

Tickets will be available online at NJTransit.com starting Saturday, August 15th at noon. These are advance purchase tickets only.

Access Link, NJ TRANSIT’s ADA-paratransit service, to and from Philadelphia will be suspended on Friday, September 25 following the closure of the Ben Franklin Bridge, through Monday, September 28, and will resume regular reservation service on Tuesday, September 29.

On top of Philadelphia Direct 2 You is also available in Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, San Francisco, Tampa, Washington, D.C. and surrounding areas.

New Jersey Transit will add trains and buses and adjust service to accommodate more riders. The difference is that many of those buses will be parked in Camden across the Ben Franklin Bridge from Philadelphia.

NJDOT Director of Traffic Operations Sal Cowan also warned that “if traffic heading to Camden becomes significantly over crowded and stopped traffic extends back onto [Interstate] 295, New Jersey Department of Transportation and its law enforcement partners will take steps to temporarily block ramps leading to these roads in order to meter the traffic and prevent lines of stopped traffic on our interstate that could create serious rear-end crashes”.

A spokeswoman for Macy’s said options, including closing, are under consideration for the weekend.
