In independent India, BJP faced more adversities than Congress: PM

BJP has faced more adversities in independent India as compared to what Congress would have during the British rule, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said today and lamented that every effort of his party was seen in “bad light”.

“Even during the British times, the Congress party would not have faced so much adversity that we, our dedicated workers have gone through in 50-60 years”, PM Modi said at an event where he laid the foundation stone of the new party headquarters in New Delhi. The BJP wants to move from the existing 11 Ashoka Road premises, into the swanky Wi-Fi-enabled building on December 25, 2018, to coincide with former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s birthday, party sources said.

“Sacrifice of generations of Karyakartas inspire us to work”, he said. The PM said that whenever the BJP formed governments, whether at the Centre or in states, people wondered what the BJP’s predecessor party, the Jana Sangh, is about.

He further said that the leadership of the BJP was such that their “thought was clear – we will be in the opposition but we won’t compromise on our ideals”. “This party is not made by a leader, a PM or a CM (chief minister)”. “Our determination is to take everyone together, work for everyone. Nation building is our priority, we need proper facilities to work and this office is a small step in that direction”, he said. The new building is expected to be ready before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
