This feature curates a personalized selection of videos from live events happening around the world including concerts, sports events and more.

“Like the rest of Explore”, Instagram notes, “this new channel is personalized for you and highlights events you might like”. Earlier this month, the.platform announced “Instagram Stories”, which functions identically to Snapchat’s Stories.it lets users post customized images and videos on their profile, where they live for 24 hours before disappearing completely. Snapchat launched a feature with the same name ages ago, and Instagram would understandably have wanted to take the competitive edge away from its rivals.

Seen on the Instagram app Wednesday morning: clips from NBC Olympics from Rio, a clip from a New York Mets baseball game and a clip (very not topical) from Fox News about the person who used a suction cup to climb New York’s Trump Tower last week. It appears that Instagram wants to improve its own offering by taking users away from Snapchat.

This one can be said yet-another Snapchat-akin feature, as Instagram is letting users control one-hand zooming with just finger-slide above the shutter button while recording. Pulling together video around specific events is one of the key areas both Twitter and Snapchat are trying to own, too. If you follow a lot of musical bands, you’ll see their clips.

A major part off this initiative was Instagram’s “Picked For You” feature, which put 20 custom channels inside Explore based on topics Instagram thought you’re interested in.

The “Explore” category is only available in the USA for now. A born-and-raised Angeleno who graduated from New York University, he now lives in Los Angeles. He has broken stories on Snapchat’s ad plans, Hulu founding CEO Jason Kilar’s attempt to take on YouTube and the assemblage of Amazon’s ad-tech stack; analyzed YouTube’s programming strategy, Facebook’s ad-tech ambitions and ad blocking’s rise; and documented digital video’s biggest annual event VidCon, BuzzFeed’s branded video production process and Snapchat Discover’s ad load six months after launch.

Needless to say, Instagram has a better interface in terms of user experience.
