Usain Bolt wins 200m semifinal heat; Justin Gatlin fails to make final

It kept going with another Jamaican, Elaine Thompson, completing the first 100-200 women’s double since 1988.

“Who wouldn’t be thankful for another medal?” “I just wanted to go out there and push him to his limits a bit”. Lochte’s father told the Associated Press that his son had returned to the USA before the order was issued, but teammates Jack Conger and Gunnar Bentz were pulled off of their plane as they were getting set to leave.

Thompson, who sprinted to gold in the women’s 100m on Saturday, stunned Dutch world champion Dafne Schippers to win the 200m in 21.78sec.

Nigerian athletes are out of both men and women’s 200m finals in Rio 2016 Olympics. “I’m a warrior, a strong girl”.

“It’s always better for me because I’m taller”.

Bolt, a seven-time Olympic gold medallist, exchanged friendly smiles with de Grasse, a first-time Olympian, and wagged his finger as they finished in 19.78 seconds and 19.8 seconds respectively.

Tonight, Sharpe expects De Grasse to show off his tremendous finishing power – or “speed endurance” as some call it – to push Bolt to the limits.

“That was really unnecessary”, Bolt said. “I don’t know what he was trying to do”.

“These young guys do a great job”, he said. He has a lot of talent.

The one man who had looked a slim possibility to deny him his chance of history was Justin Gatlin, but he failed to even make the final.

Gatlin, who ran 19.75 last month – the second fastest time of the year, said afterwards he had been hampered by an ankle injury. The 100 silver medalist at the Rio Games finished third in his 200 heat and is out of the hunt; Gatlin told NBC afterward that he had a sore ankle.

Bolt will run in the finals of the 200m race; if he wins, it will be Bolt’s eighth Olympic gold medal and will bookend the win he got in the 100m race earlier in the track and field competition.

But Brazil were disappointed not to have added a gold medal to their tally, after their duo composed of Agatha and Barbara lost in the beach volleyball final to Germany. But they’re ahead of the game.

Their wins Wednesday gave them 19 for the meet – five gold, seven silver and seven bronze – which is already one more than they won through the entire world championships previous year in Beijing. Reese could only manage 7.15 on her final jump. Reese, the defending Olympic champion, had one last shot to pass her but came two centimeters short.

On his run, Gemili said: “I really tightened up”.

Darya Klishina, the lone Russian in the entire meet due to a doping scandal in the country, finished ninth.
