Arsene Wenger admits Arsenal were not physically ready for Liverpool

Arsenal entailed a bad defeat to Liverpool in their opening fixture of the new Premier League season and one of the biggest debates surrounding the result, was Arsenal’s distinctive lack of leadership.

Philippe Coutinho hit back for the visitors on the stroke of half-time with a free-kick before early second-half goals from Adam Lallana and Sadio Mane put them in the clear.

To compound the north Londoners misery, Ramsey was forced off shortly after half-time at the Emirates and Wenger has confirmed the Welsh global suffered a hamstring injury.

“Liverpool wanted to defend and protect what they had but they could not ignore the opportunities they were getting at the other end and had to keep on attacking, which made it such an exciting game”, Jenas told BBC Sport.

“We are not ready because we had many players at the Euros who stayed very late – Aaron Ramsey, Ozil, Koscielny, Giroud, they went to the semi-finals (at least)”.

“We started much slower in the second half”.

The Gunners have now lost three out of the last four opening games of the season, and the familiar sight of first-choice defenders sitting in the stands has got fans asking questions about Arsene Wenger’s summertime prep.

“We will try, but when they have not enough preparation they get injured”, he said of his rested players.

“Physically, we are not ready”. Then we showed we are fit, we were training hard in pre-season.

The Mirror goes onto state that Arsene Wenger is intent on biding his time in the transfer market and refuses to buy for the sake of it.

He added: “At the same time, we are not stupid. We just need to be a little bit more street-wise”. “You have to sometimes accept that you can not control absolutely everything, even if you try to be as intelligent as possible”.

“It was a really intense game for both sides”, said Jurgen Klopp.

“Scoring four goals is wonderful, conceding three is the opposite of that emotion”, he said.

Instead, the German gaffer is looking to utilise James Milner on the left of defence and wait for the return to fitness of Joe Gomez, who took up that role at the start of last season. But the more goals I score, the more I can help the team.
