Congrats to Ichiro Suzuki on 3000 hits
He joined Paul Molitor as the only players whose 3,000th hit was a triple.

Despite his gripes with comparisons to Ichiro Suzuki, Pete Rose is still congratulating the Japanese player on his recent 3,000-hit milestone.
“The long-awaited-moment has come”, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said at a press conference on Monday, following the landmark hit in the finale of the three-game series against the Colorado Rockies. His streak of 10 consecutive 200-hit seasons is the most by any player in Major League Baseball history. But with one out in the top of the seventh against Rockies left-hander Chris Rusin, Ichiro jumped on a 2-0 slider and just missed a home run – setting off a celebration among a crowd of 40,875, as well as the Marlins bench that spontaneously emptied to embrace him at third base. He batted again in the ninth and drew a walk. Suzuki breezed into third standing up.
Stanton’s 23rd homer was the longest in the major leagues this season and the longest in Coors Field history.
Ichiro’s career has unfolded in a way few could have expected when he departed his homeland of Japan to play in the United States before the 2001 season.
Things would get shaky for Miami in the middle innings after Adam Conley allowed a solo home run to Nolan Arenado leading off the bottom of the fourth.
At 42 years, 290 days he is the second-oldest player by three days over Ricky Henderson to reach the milestone. “I’ve been able to get some hits”.
Kawamura, who now serves as the manager of Ichiro’s former youth team, said Ichiro could throw harder and run faster than his peers, even as a young child. “For me, it’s been an honor to watch him play, an honor to have managed him”, Mattingly said. His worsening slump finally relegated him to the bench for most of the past month, with A-Rod getting only one start and seven at-bats in 14 games since July 22. He stayed in the game and grounded out in the ninth.
Suzuki, who went from Japan to Seattle in 2001, played with the Seattle Mariners from the beginning of his career until 2012, when he was traded New York Yankees.
“Congratulations to my friend and teammate Ichiro on joining the 3,000-hit club, ” Derek Jeter said in a statement released by the Yankees. I hope Ichiro goes in the hall of fame as a Seattle Mariners.
The Miami Marlins beat the Colorado Rockies 10-7 on Sunday in a game that featured Ichiro Suzuki’s 3000th hit.
Suzuki didn’t make his major league debut until age 27, making him the oldest player at the time of his debut to reach 3,000 hits.
Suzuki made his Major League Baseball debut with the Seattle Mariners and went on to become only the second player to win the Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player awards in the same season.
