Car salesman Jason Kenny inundated with messages after Olympian’s wins

After cruising round the 100-lap points race on Sunday, the final portion of the six-element omnium, she was congratulated by fiance Jason Kenny who surpassed her Rio haul by one, winning three golds to take his tally to a British record-equalling six.

While the two clearly deserve a well-earned break, they won’t have much time to rest as they plan to get married next month.

Trott’s second gold of the games brought her overall Olympic golds total to four – making her the most successful British female Olympian of all time.

Chinese sprint duo Gong Jinjie and Zhong Tianshi won the women’s team sprint in which Britain did not compete while Mark Cavendish was edged out by Elia Viviani in the men’s omnium.

Trott told the Daily Mail that she and Jason celebrated their Rio wins with a low-key night.

“Terrific Tuesday” at the Rio Olympics saw 24-year-old Laura Trott cruise to an incredible victory in the omnium to claim the fourth gold of her career.

“I don’t want to accuse anyone of anything but it is all very questionable”, she said. I’m sure a lot of people who care about me were?

“I was well placed and I thought it was a massive call to make for a guy to make with the naked eye”, said Dyer.

Two of them came courtesy of cyclists Jason Kenny and Laura Trott, who both secured gold medals in the velodrome. It just started to snowball. “I love racing my bike”. It was so hard to build myself up and come back again. We occasionally go out riding together just because we enjoy it but generally speaking we have our own programmes and we support each other like any couple would regardless if we were cyclists.

Starting the day eight points ahead of nearest rival Jolien D’Hoore of Belgium, Trott finished the time trial on 156 points.

Kenny’s victory was less clear-cut.

Vogel had a problem with her saddle at the start of the second race, causing a brief delay.

The keirin final had to be restarted twice after false starts but no-one was disqualified as Matthijs Buchli of the Netherlands won silver with Azizulhasni Awang of Malaysia taking bronze.

First, the world sprint bronze medallist knocked off Marchant in the semifinals, then she swept past James in the best-of-three event to win Germany’s first cycling gold medal of the Rio Games.

“It just felt like a dream”.

“I’m so exhausted, I’m floating through it. I was just floating through it”, said an uncharacteristically emotional Kenny afterwards.

“Pretty mental really (to equal Hoy’s record) to come here and do the same is incredible”.
