The Mirror reported that, according to police sources, the abduction was a “settling of scores” as El-Chapo waits for extradition to the U.S. to stand trial for drug trafficking charges.

But Eduardo Almaguer, Jalisco state attorney general, isn’t so sure. In a separate interview, Almaguer suggested that another of El Chapo’s sons, Alfredo, may have been the one kidnapped, but this also is not confirmed.

While the details surrounding the kidnapping are still under investigation, Guzman family attorney Pablo Badillo says “it’s very likely” that the drug cartel leader’s eldest son, Ivan Archivaldo, was abducted.

The Mexican army, federal police, state police and the country’s prosecution office have all joined the search to locate the missing men and their kidnappers.

According to earlier reports the 29-year-old was taken by a rival cartel who want to “settle scores” with the world’s most famous drug dealer.

Jesus Alfredo Guzman Salazar, the 29-year-old son of Guzman, has been confirmed by authorities as one of the abducted men.
