Carroll hedges on Graham being ready for Seahawks opener

Graham was activated off the physically unable to perform list last Wednesday and has been a limited participant in practice.

Via Sheil Kapadia of ESPN.com, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll left the door open to the possibility Graham might not be ready for the opener. He’s watched those each day from the sidelines while wearing a baseball cap. But I don’t have any expectation for that.

Graham is going to have to prove on the field this regular season that this same decline isn’t going to happen to him. And all of this drop off led to Graham averaging 2.7 fewer fantasy points per game previous year (9.3 fantasy points per game in 2014 as opposed to 6.6 in 2015). Each team can use the short-term IR designation with one player each season. The first would be to carry him on their 53-man roster, which would make sense if the team felt he was close to returning.

Right now, that is an iffy proposition.

Webb’s absence means Garry Gilliam will start at right tackle and Bradley Sowell will start at left tackle against the Vikings. Minnesota right defensive end Everson Griffen has 22 1/2 sacks in the last two seasons.

Russell Wilson is expecting the Seattle Seahawks to be pretty good this season. Graham received just eight red zone targets in 11 games last season.

Rookie seventh-round pick Zac Brooks will play in his first Seahawks game. Graham’s final numbers were obviously hurt by the fact he missed the last five games in 2015, but his averages fell off a cliff.

What’s Wilson want to see from Thursday’s second practice game?

Here is more of what Wilson said Wednesday. We feel like there’s a lot of guys at the receiver spot, there’s a lot of running backs, a lot of corners. The front four did not get a pass rush on third and 9, allowing Alex Smith time to find a secondary option for a 20-yard gain to the 1.

“We don’t have a timetable for this that he has to meet any schedule at all”, Carroll said. “We would like to see the attack on the football better”. (Just) clean things up.

“We’ve had great teams before, and I can honestly say that this is the most competitive and most talented team I think across the board”, Wilson said when asked about the depth at wide receiver.
