The IAAF doping board rejected 67 athletes entered by Russian Federation but accepted Klishina, who is based in Florida, because she lived overseas and had been through regular worldwide doping checks after a cutoff period starting January 1, 2014 The doping review board told the CAS hearing that “certain of the athlete’s samples has been subject to tampering and manipulation”, according to the tribunal’s statement.

The IAAF announced in late June that it had amended the organisation’s regulations in order to allow field and track athletes from Russian Federation to submit individual applications for worldwide tournaments. The IAAF then suspended her on Saturday based on new information from a report by Canadian lawyer Richard McLaren. However, the CAS provided a counter saying that she “complied with the relevant criteria because of her permanent residence outside of Russian Federation”.

“We instigated a review process following new evidence presented to us”, it said. “The parties were informed that the application was upheld and that the athlete remained eligible to compete in the Olympic Games in Rio”, the CAS statement read, reports Xinhua news agency.

Qualifying for the women’s long jump begins on August 16.

Klishina, who also has a budding modelling career, has kept a low profile in recent weeks after she received personal abuse via social media from Russians who considered her to be a “traitor” for going to the Games. The rest of the Russian team was banned over allegations of a widespread, state-sponsored doping program.

Later in July, CAS turned down an appeal from the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) and 68 national athletes filed against IAAF, thus closing the doors on Russian field and track athletes to the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Brazil.
