Britain Could Get ‘Special Status’ After Brexit, German Minister Admits
He told an audience at the Edinburgh International Book Festival that the Prime Minister was likely to meet with the same attitude in Brexit negotiations as her predecessor David Cameron before the referendum.

In a huge boost for Theresa May, Germany’s Minister of State for Europe said Britain’s size and power meant it held a strong negotiating position. Liam Fox has recruited more than 100 of the 1,000 experts it needs to carry out his policy, says The Sunday Times.
The data from the Mannheim-based ZEW institute came after the German central bank said on Monday that the June 23 vote to leave the European Union is likely to have limited immediate economic impact on the German economy, Europe’s largest.
The inflation figures are important in that they are the first since the June 23 referendum to leave the 28-nation bloc. Although some countries would like London to start the process as soon as possible, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that it was understandable that the country needed time to discuss its options and get ready for this move.
Britain created two new government departments to handle Brexit and global trade, led by David Davis and Liam Fox, two prominent “Leave” campaigners in the referendum.
“We can’t quibble about it”.
Asked whether Britain could adopt a model similar to that of Switzerland or Norway, which are not members of the European Union but have close ties to it, Roth said the deal agreed with London would probably be unlike those struck with other countries.
Big investment banks with their European headquarters in London will start the process of moving jobs from the United Kingdom within weeks of the government triggering Brexit, a faster timeline than their public messages of patience would imply, according to people briefed on the plans being drawn up by four of the biggest firms.
Mr Roth said that two years will be ample time to complete negotiations, with Britain leaving before the next elections to the European Parliament in June 2019.
He added, however: “There can not be any cherry picking”.
The United Kingdom receives billions of euros for research from the European Union, mostly from its €74.8-billion (US$83.6-billion) Horizon 2020 (H2020) programme.

One of the big unknowns surrounding the UK’s extraction from the European Union involves whether we can have access to the single market without freedom of movement.
