Milwaukee to enforce curfew on teenagers amid unrest
The city’s police chief said Smith, 23, was shot and killed by a black police officer Saturday afternoon after he turned toward the officer with a gun in his hand. Police say he had a gun. It’s in the custody of the state Justice Department, which is leading the investigation into the shooting. The killing touched off violence that led to the destruction of six businesses on the city’s mostly black north side Saturday night. The officer was wearing a body camera, Barrett said.

Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke said Smith had been arrested 13 times.
Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker declared a state of emergency Sunday, putting the state’s National Guard on alert should local law enforcement require reinforcement.
Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who has campaigned with Trump, was also part of the meeting.
Protests first erupted last Saturday, when a crowd of about 200 turned violent following the shooting of Mr Smith, who was in a vehicle with another individual when he was stopped by two police officers.
“What happened tonight may not have been right and I am not justifying that but no one can deny the fact that there are problems, racial problems in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, that need to be rectified”, he said.
Later on, shots rang out in three different locations, all within close proximity, according to police. Police said the man was fleeing a traffic stop but released few other details. The high school now has about 1,500 students.
“This is my brother, my protector, somebody who is suppose to be there for me”, said Sherelle Smith, the deceased man’s sister. The shooting is under investigation.
Milwaukee is moving up its curfew for teenagers following violence on the city’s north side after the police-involved shooting of a black man.
Council President Ashanti Hamilton promised he would engage the community to help address those issues and told King Rick that “it’s a heavy lift”.
For Randy Jones, a community activist in the Milwaukee district of Sherman Park, the rioting that took place in his neighborhood over the weekend was inevitable. But the National Guard was not deployed Monday as local police sought to restore order.
The next night, more than 100 people holding candles and paper signs reading “BlackLivesMatter” gathered at Sherman Park and then marched to the site of the shooting.
An 18-year-old man was wounded Sunday by gunfire and 11 law enforcement officers were injured as protesters pelted them with rocks and bricks, authorities said. He is also taping an appearance with Fox’s Sean Hannity on Tuesday evening in Milwaukee. Police took the injured person to a hospital in an armored vehicle.
Five members of the group are at City Hall Tuesday morning asking to meet with council members.
Gunshots were fired, businesses were set ablaze, people were detained and police vehicles damaged after a confrontation between police and protestors turned violent Saturday night in Milwaukee in the north-central US state of Wisconsin.
At least three people were arrested in an uprising that Barrett said was driven by social media messages instructing people to congregate in the area. Several squad cars were damaged, and another vehicle was torched.
Six businesses were burned Saturday night, the first and worst night of the unrest.
“The goal is to make the city safe and not to win a fight”, Flynn said. Police did not say who shot the man, but that they continue to look for suspects. The state is investigating.
The confrontations continued overnight and resumed on Sunday night.

Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett said that until further notice, a 10 p.m. curfew for those under 18 will be more strictly enforced because he doesn’t want children at the protests.
