Four civilians killed as fresh clashes erupt in Kashmir

Srinagar-In occupied Kashmir, seven civilians including a teenage boy were killed and many others injured in firing by Indian armed forces on peaceful protesters in Srinagar, Badgam and Islamabad districts, Tuesday. Protests were also reported from Madoora and Batagund areas. Over 4,000 people have been injured in the protests.

Earlier in the morning, two civilians died and four others were critically injured after fresh clashes were reported in Budgam district. Scores of persons are reported to have sustained injuries in these clashes.

In Anantnag’s Larkipur, 12 protesters were injured as forces fired pellets and bullets.

This firing has also led to injuries to 15 other civilians.

New Delhi has rejected Pakistan’s invitation to hold talks on the future of Jammu and Kashmir, India’s northernmost state, and Modi said he had received messages of support from leaders in restive parts of Pakistan. Police bust tear smoke shells to disperse the youth, however none was injured.

Meanwhile, reports coming from across Srinagar said that police and para-military forces have been deployed at all major entry and exit points.

The broadband and postpaid cellular services of private operators continue to remain suspended across Kashmir Valley.

He said stone-pelting incidents were reported from Warpora in Sopore area of Baramulla district and Brein-Nishat on the banks of Dal Lake here in Srinagar.

Militants today ambushed an Army convoy, killing two soldiers and a policeman in Kashmir Valley where curfew remained in force in Srinagar district, Anantnag town and Magam area.

The officials discussed inputs suggesting a large amount of funds are being pumped into the Valley to fuel the protests. A shutdown call had been given by local Muslim organisations such as Anjuman Islamia Bhaderwah, Seerat Committee Doda, Anjuman Islamia Gandoh, Markazi Majlis-e-Shoura Kishtwar and Masjid Committee Thathri.

All educational institutions, shops, public transport and other businesses have remained shut since July 9, a day after Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani died while fighting Indian armed forces.
