Over the years, the PPV has given us classics by the legendary likes of Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, The Rock, and John Cena – featuring famous encounters like Edge vs The Undertaker, Brock Lesnar vs, CM Punk, Bret Hart vs. Let’s now take a look at some of these matches.
Heath Slater came in with a fruit basket for the SmackDown commissioner and general manager, which was written out to “Bob” instead of “Boss”. He tossed an apple to Orton. A win is still a win, and he finally got his Smackdown contract afterwards. Maybe. The writers are giving him a hell of a push right now.
The gist: Miz was interrupted by Dean Ambrose’s music right after he began speaking.
And of course, Ziggler responded with a surprise kick to the face. Will we be seeing Dolph Ziggler winning the WWE World Heavyweight Championship?
“There he is”, Ambrose said, responding to a fairly standard boast from Ziggler.
Personally, I feel this match will be a mess and I see it being on the Preshow. He’ll never be a World/Universal Champion, nor even an Intercontinental or United States Champion, but there is a roll for characters like his. After her ankled healed, she had another chance last week, but suffered from a wardrobe malfunction. Crews came out and hit Miz with the sit out powerbomb. However, I hope not as the main event should end clean and not with controversy like a year ago with Lesnar v Undertaker and the whole timekeeper farce. WWE has not done anything to make fans care about Miz vs. Crews.
American Alpha, The Hype Bros., and The Usos d. Bad idea: she is awful on commentary. He’s a four-time WWE Champion with some of the most dominant reigns in company history. Del Rio tells him to calm down and he doesn’t need a pep talk. Styles said that’s why he’s in the main event at SummerSlam and Del Rio isn’t even on the card. Despite my preference for one world champion, I still see the advantages of adding the second title too however. Styles got in a zinger on Del Rio, who was in the doghouse even before his suspension for violating the Wellness Policy was announced. Curiously, Lesnar cursed in that too, noting “nor do I give a f*** about Randy Orton”.
Aftermath: Orton continued to assault Slater. That’s what Slater making stands, however thwarted, against Lesnar and then Orton suggests.
Analysis: The Hawkins vignette was either inspired by Chuck Norris, Matt Hardy Version I or both. He’s a good guy to have on the roster.
Although the build for this card has been very weak, if you look at the matches alone this looks like it has the potential to be a great card.
Randy Orton is backstage, signing his contract from SummerSlam. I’m still confused as to why Lesnar and Orton were drafted to different shows in the first place. Slater thought Shane was Stephanie. I take nothing away from their wrestling skills.
Before the match: Orton crossed paths with Rowan and Wyatt on the ramp.
Analysis: Slater was pretty entertaining in the backstage. The crowd actually booed him for that. Escaping an attempted powerbomb from Rowan later in the match, Ambrose reversed it into a Dirty Deeds finisher to get the win.
I read awhile back that Del Rio is looking to leave WWE again. Comedy is one of the easiest ways to make someone watch a television show. Before Marie gets to the ring, Naomi (her opponent from earlier tonight) starts chasing her. Natalya throws Naomi out of the ring, then attempts to roll up Lynch.
Analysis: The best part of the match was Eva Marie and Naomi showing up. It is just that this feud has no real story to it, and both men deserve this bout to be more special. That’s what Corbin continually bullying Kalisto suggests.
Who’s the bad guy, Rusev or Roman?
As promised, AJ Styles joins the announce team and spends most of his time arguing with David Otunga. Cena has been “The Face that Runs the Place” for years while Styles was the man who carried TNA. Styles set up for The Styles Clash, but Cena countered with the AA.

Analysis: The match was decent, but the outcome obviously was a foregone conclusion. Cricket also held a sweepstakes in July, with one victor and a guest getting tickets to SummerSlam. Go figure. I picked an off week to tune in. Dean isn’t buying the Dolph, though. A new column is posted every Wednesday.
