The Chicago Bears faced off against the New England Patriots in week two of preseason play at Gillette Stadium.
As it turned out, Brady cut his hand with a pair of scissors while trying to dislodge something from his cleat, according to Comcast Sports New England. He can’t take the field during the regular season until October 9, the first game after he serves his four-game DeflateGate suspension.
CSN New England reporter Tom Curran first reported Brady’s injury, the extent of which is not fully known. The Patriots have divvied up reps between both Garappolo and Brady with the first team throughout training camp and preseason. This will mark the first season since 2001 that a quarterback other than Brady starts the regular-season opener for the Patriots.
With that being said, don’t be shocked if Brady now skips the preseason altogether.
The Patriots are also expected to be without tight end Rob Gronkowski and receiver Julian Edelman on Thursday.

Brady is expected to return in Week 5 against the Cleveland Browns.
