Investigators said the Sinaloa cartel’s chief rival, the Jalisco-based New Generation cartel, was likely behind the kidnappings.

Footage has emerged of the moments when notorious drug lord El Chapo’s son was kidnapped at an upscale resort restaurant.

Security expert Raul Benitez said: “There is a war right now for control of the Sinaloa cartel and a central theme in that war is the issue of attacks on his family”.

The man’s kidnapping is the latest blow to his father’s purported drug empire, which began crumbling earlier this year when Guzman was arrested by Mexican authorities.

Jesus Alfredo Guzman is believed to be involved with the Sinaloa Cartel.

The Sinaloa cartel, sometimes referred to by Mexican officials as the Pacific cartel, is the oldest drug cartel in Mexico.

The incident took place at a restaurant in the resort city of Puerto Vallarta.

Mexico’s most wanted drug lord, Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, stands for his prison mug shot.

“Our investigation quickly identified some of those who perpetrated this action, and their links confirm that they are part of this criminal group”, Jalisco state prosecutor Eduardo Almaguer said on Tuesday.

“Jalisco state’s attorney general confirmed that 29-year-old Jesus Alfredo Guzman, a son of Chapo Guzman, was one of six men abducted by armed assailants in Puerto Vallarta”, Carrie says.

The U.S. Treasury Department froze Jesus Alfredo’s assets in the country in June 2012 and banned U.S. citizens from doing business or carrying out transactions with him, under the Foreign Narcotics Kingpin Designation Act, known as the Kingpin Act.

Mexican authorities are searching for the missing men as well as those responsible, Almaguer said.

Officials identified three of the other men kidnapped in Puerto Vallarta as Daniel Calva Tapia, 53; Josias Nahuali Rabago Borbolla, 35; and Victor Galvan Ureña, 46.

In a separate interview, Almaguer suggested that another of El Chapo’s sons, Alfredo, may have been the one kidnapped, but this also is not confirmed.
