“I have a small fracture in my ankle and have to head back to the States now”.
She was heading home to Vail, Colorado, to have the ankle examined further.
Despite her latest injury, Vonn is optimistic she will not be off the slopes for too long.
Vonn, who was spending a second week in New Zealand for her first on-snow training ahead of the new season, did not say which ankle was damaged.
Vonn missed the 2014 Sochi Olympics after tearing two ligaments in her right knee after a crash at the 2013 world championships. Also, Vonn has proved capable of overcoming serious injuries and returning to the pinnacle of skiing already.
Lindsey Vonn competed in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada. It is unclear which ankle she fractured but either way she should have plenty of time to heal and rehab before the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea where Vonn has said she will race.

On her Twitter account Vonn said it was a minor setback.
