Several people called the police to Flandrische Street shortly before 4am (noon AEST) on Monday to report that three or four people seemed to be having problems with another man.

BERLIN (AP) – An early-morning scuffle in the western German city of Cologne left a man seriously wounded Monday, and police have taken some bar patrons in for questioning.

The attack took place in Cologne’s city centre.

A man who sustained a stab wound tried to flee in his auto but other men shot at him, though they only hit the vehicle.

Crime scene officers discovered blood, shattered glass, and spent bullet cases on the ground.

Two possible suspects have since been apprehended by police as they continue to attempt to track down the other two attackers. Eyewitnesses said several people were involved in an argument.

It is so far unclear whether this was a terror-related attack, as reportedly the area where the violence happened is a notorious red light district where money-laundering and drug-dealing is rife. The man was suffering from stabbing and head injuries.

Police rushed to the scene of the attack which saw one man stabbed in the thigh and Cologne's city centre sent into lockdown
