Jose Mourinho: Chelsea made this same mistake as Man Utd

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has warned supporters not to expect too much of Paul Pogba, who he does not believe is capable of scoring 20 goals a season.

Speaking about Bailly, Mourinho said: “He is a young boy playing in a completely different competition with a different club, but despite all the pressure and expectation that comes with playing for United, he.is comfortable, leading and communicative”.

The managed also remarked that the new signing had fitted back into the club seamlessly, having left Old Trafford in 2012.

Can’t get enough of the Premier League on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday?

“(Paolo) Maldini never got a Golden Ball.

“You don’t give a golden ball to a goalkeeper, you give it to [Fabio] Cannavaro once, because in that season he was the captain of Italy, the world champions, not many top players”. You look immediately to the ones that score a lot of goals.

“Can Paul score the same number of goals as Ronaldo and Messi?”

Southampton won 1-0 on both their most recent visits to Old Trafford, with Charlie Austin’s 87th-minute header securing victory last January, but they are also a team in transition. I believe in a season he can not score 20 goals. So if to be the best player in the world means to score a lot of goals, that’s not the point.

Pogba has never scored more than 10 goals in a single season throughout his career.

Referring to the French midfielder’s physical condition, Mourinho said: “We played against Leicester with players with less training than him and we saw that match as a way to improve them”.

However the Manchester United manager couldn’t say whether or not the club’s record signing will start.

Mourinho insists Pogba will not score “25 per cent” of the goals Ronaldo and Messi net each season and expects the France global to make a “progressive impact”. He’s a very good professional, he had good training sessions this week, and it’s important to have Jose with us and I hope against United.

“If you lose a player, it doesn’t mean if you get a chance to recover him, you don’t recover him”. Chelsea did the same mistake with (Nemanja) Matic and a few years later I pushed the club to do the deal. “You do the mistake only once”.

“To protect their choices, the player they buy, they have to play all the time”.

He replied: “The market is open until 31 August, but I am very happy with the players I have”.
