Ex-NFL star Darren Sharper gets 18 years prison

Triche-Milazzo stated on Thursday that the courts “could not ignore the damage” Sharper inflicted on society and women in general, according to the Associated Press. He was alleged to have drugged and raped women in Louisiana, Arizona, California and Nevada.

Former Minnesota Vikings and Green Bay Packers safety Darren Sharper was given an 18-year prison sentence in New Orleans on Thursday. Sharper pleaded guilty to charges of sexually assaulting a woman in Arizona as part of a broader plea deal and was sentenced to nine years in federal prison.

On the surface, Sharper seems to be the kind of guy that should have no trouble courting the opposite sex.

“They didn’t deserve anything being a part of my heinous decisions”, Sharper said. Sharper said he had lived “right” for 38 years – before he “took this path”.

Sharper’s federal sentence exceeds the 17-year prison term that the former deputy, Brandon Licciardi, accepted this summer.

Charges around the country involve nine victims, but Milazzo has said in court that there may be as many as 16. The victim was one of two women Sharper drugged and raped at his condo after a night of partying in September 2013.

Licciardi will be sentenced on 13 October along with a second defendant Erik Nunez.

Sharper’s brother, former National Football League pro Jamie Sharper, was among those to attend Thursday’s sentencing hearing, along with other relatives.

Like Sharper, Licciardi and Nunez admitted distributing drugs with the intent to commit rape.

“Within days … you gave … and the entire judicial system in Louisiana the big middle finger because you thought we weren’t capable of stopping you”, she said.

Sharper, a defensive back, was voted All-Pro six times and played in five Pro Bowls and two Super Bowls. After the end of his career in 2011, he worked as a television analyst for a station in New Orleans and then the NFL Network.
