49ers banking on ‘next week’ plan for Colin Kaepernick

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick stretches as players prepare to take part in drills against the Denver Broncos during the teams’ joint NFL football training camp session Thursday in Englewood, Colo. “So, he’ll throw a little bit more and what (quarterbacks coach) Ryan (Day) will do with him in drills and see how he feels and continue to progress him, and hopefully we can get him back full next week”. If all goes well, he will against the Green Bay Packers Aug. 26 in the 49ers third preseason game. “Talking to him, he says he feels really good about it”.

Kaepernick threw passes on the side Thursday but hasn’t thrown in team drills since August 10.

Kaepernick hasn’t thrown in team drills since last Wednesday, the result of what he initially called a tight shoulder but the team has since classified as a exhausted arm. Blaine Gabbert, Jeff Driskel, and Christian Ponder will split snaps on Saturday.

“As we said before, from what we understand, it’s not a long-term thing”.

“A few weeks ago, I told coach that if it would help us, I’d be willing to play there”, said Davis, who is coming back after missing last season on a health sabbatical.

San Francisco 49ers’ Anthony Davis (76) is photographed on the sidelines against the Houston Texans in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s exhibition game. “Obviously, if we get him in the game Saturday, it will be limited in terms of, ‘What do you feel real comfortable throwing?”

“I don’t think he can go and we’re holding him back”, Kelly said. He has a unique way of presenting it where he s kind of amusing, but I think when he gets really serious about pass rush there s some tremendous amount of knowledge in what he has in his success in this league, his ability, that everybody recognizes, which is why he s in the Hall of Fame.

Notes: Hall of Famer Charles Haley has been on the practice field with his old team working with the 49ers’ pass-rushing linebackers. Tempers flared several times between the teams but the skirmishes between players were quickly brought under control.
