Pat Hickey ‘refused bail’ in Rio, THG Sports call for independent inquiry
Mr Hickey complained of heart problems as he was arrested on Wednesday over the alleged illegal sale of tickets.

In a statement released to the media, THG Sports said they would welcome such an inquiry, which they say will prove that they have operated lawfully at all times.
This morning THG and Pro10 Sports Management and THG both backed calls for an independent probe this morning.
Rio police said Mr Hickey’s partner claimed her husband had returned to Ireland – but officers then began a search of the hotel and found him in his son’s room.
Mr Adams refused to offer an opinion on whether the presence of a camera crew at Mr Hickey’s door when the arrest occurred was a “stunt” created to embarrass the IOC.
As well as the President of the Olympic Council of Ireland (OCI) and European Olympic Committees, Hickey has been an International Olympic Committee (IOC) member since 1995 and an Executive Board member since 2012.
The 71-year-old Irishman was arrested in a dawn raid at the Olympic Family Windsor Hotel yesterday and subsequently charged with ticket touting, forming a cartel and illicit marketing.
“The Olympic Council of Ireland can confirm that Pat Hickey has been discharged from hospital and has been accompanied to a police station to complete a deposition, ” the National Olympic Committee said in a statement today.
“The IOC respectfully takes note of the decision by Mr Hickey to step aside as president of the OCI and all other Olympic functions (IOC member in Ireland, EOC president, ANOC vice president) until this matter is fully resolved”.
Pat Hickey hides from photographers in the back of a police vehicle after leaving Insituto de Criminalista Carlos Eboli Endereco Police Station in Rio de Janeiro.
Irish consular officials in Brazil have already offered their “assistance if requested” but Ireland’s Sports Minister Shane Ross appears to be in a less charitable mood.
It was expected that Mr Hickey would be brought to a detention facility last night – possibly the Bangu 8 prison where Mr Mallon is now being held.
“We can’t make any comment while the legal case is going on here”, O’Brien said.
However, he did say the OCI would “defend ourselves to the hilt”.
Speaking to reporters outside Samaritano Hospital in Rio de Janeiro on Wednesday night, Mr O’Brien said OCI officials had been granted “restricted access” during their visit.
Kevin Mallon, a director of THG Sports, which specialises in corporate and sports hospitality and is owned by Ipswich Town FC owner Marcus Evans, was arrested after police seized about 1,000 tickets for the Olympics in a hotel, some of which were part of the Irish allocation.

After more than two weeks living in luxury, matters could be about to take a very different turn for the former president – who is expected to be transported to a cramped police cell. Friends could speak to him but police would intervene if visitors attempted to hand him anything or show emails.
