South African openers dismissed in first session

Four seasons ago, New Zealand was bowled out for 45 on the first day of its previous series in South Africa, and eventually lost both Tests by an innings.

At Kingsmead, Steyn and Philander are set to team up for the first time with Kagiso Rabada, South Africa’s 21-year-old fast-bowling phenomenon, who was named the country’s cricketer of the year last month.

Steyn has played only one Test since last November and will be looking to have a go at the New Zealanders
