Thailand’s Ariya Jutanugarn leads after first round, Park returns
“But I did have the best day of my life”.

Her only option was to go with the sleeveless version, which showed off shoulders that never get any sun.
Former University of Arkansas All-American Stacy Lewis set a modern Olympic Games record with 11 birdies moving into second place in the second round at the Olympic Golf Course on Thursday.
This is the first time for women’s golf to be in the Olympics since the Paris Games in 1900, and back then it was only a nine-hole competition. Lewis was one shot behind Inbee Park of South Korea, who birdied her last two holes for another 5-under 66 and the 36-hole lead.
She started out badly, with a bogey on the par-4 third hole, but recovered immediately with birdie on hole No.4, a par 3. She is one of the best young golfers in the world, and is playing the most consistent golf in Rio. Her bid for a fourth straight birdie spun out on the 13th hole, and she missed a 6-footer on the next hole.
“The more eyeballs we can get on us the better”, Lewis said. The way I’m hitting it right now, I can’t sit here and tell you that it’s out of the question for me. The next day, Park had a golf club in her hand for the first time. Golf was voted back into the Olympics a year after she won her first major, and Park has been preparing for this moment ever since. She rallied on the back side with two birdies and a spectacular eagle on No. 10.
Thompson tuned up for the Olympics with a typical practice regimen while 15th-ranked American Gerina Piller pulled weeds from her garden, saying, “My hamstrings are so sore it’s not even amusing”. “Anytime you see some putts go in, it frees up the swing a little bit more”.
The first eagle came at the par-4 ninth, where she chipped in from about 32 yards out.
Henderson had to hit a provisional ball after spraying a shot wide on the 12th hole and needed a 10-foot putt just to save double bogey.
“I got the ring rust off in the last fight and now I’m just pushing on”, she said, adding that she felt she had improved in every area since 2012. But she took six shots on the par-5 18th, to finish with her even-par score. She turned 1-over and would stay there until a bogey on No. 14 moved her to plus-2.
Park skipped the last two LPGA majors, including a title defense at the Women’s British Open, to nurse a left thumb injury to good enough shape that she could compete in these Games.
The tournament got under way three days after Britain’s Justin Rose won the first men’s gold medal in 112 years in a down-to-the-wire battle with Henrik Stenson of Sweden. She could only muster a 70 and was seven shots out of the lead.
Women’s golf is making its Olympic debut in Rio.
Rallying behind her this week as she tees off in the 2016 Olympics games will be her parents, brother and daughter.
Whilst the men lost six, only one of the female top ten will not be present in Rio and that is because world number ten Ha Na Jang is only ranked fifth out of the South Korean women.
