Sunderland have accepted Watford’s bid for Younes Kaboul after the centre-half asked to leave the club.
Sunderland confirmed on their website late Thursday night about Kaboul’s decision to leave the Stadium of Light and the former Portsmouth defender paid tribute to the club to allow him to leave after just one season, with Watford yet to discuss personal terms with Kaboul.
He continued: “Boro will come here with the intention of attacking while also staying strong at the back, and as you said when a team has been promoted they want to show why they’re in the Premier League”.
It continued, “Younes had spoken with David Moyes in recent days, expressing his desire to leave the club for personal reasons”.
The 30-year-old concluded, “I hope they understand that I have made this incredibly hard decision for me”.
It led to a statement being put out in his name claiming Kone wanted a move after Sunderland had failed to offer him a promised new deal – a claim rejected by the club who will offer him a bumper new deal on September 1.
The defender joined Sunderland in July 2015 from Tottenham on a four-year contract, making 23 appearances for the club last season and was a key figure under Sam Allardyce.
