Until now, Trump has relied on holding rallies almost every week to reach voters in North Carolina, the latest one on Thursday evening in Charlotte.
He added that, “Too much is at stake for us to be consumed with these issues”. Trump is using the device as he works to stay more on message and avoid the off-the-cuff remarks that have often landed him in hot water.
His speech Thursday came days after a campaign shake-up which brought on Stephen Bannon, formerly of the right-wing website Breitbart News, to be campaign CEO. As many as 45 percent voters say Clinton would be a poor or bad president.

Trump now trails Clinton in preference polls of most key battleground states.
During an event Tuesday near Milwaukee, Trump spoke about the need for “law and order” and to challenge what he described as a corrupt political establishment, themes he also hit during his speech in Charlotte.
After McClatchy reported that only three of nine top Clinton aides took the training, a senior communications adviser for the Trump campaign said, “That would make sense since Hillary was planning a criminal enterprise trading government favors for cash”.
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump smiles as he participates in a roundtable discussion on national security in his offices in Trump Tower in New York, Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2016.
Pollster Kellyanne Conway, who has known Trump for years and gained his trust during her brief tenure working for him, will serve as campaign manager.
Trump, reading from a teleprompter, vowed as president to address the poverty and unemployment that has disproportionally affected African-American communities and urged black voters to “give Donald Trump a chance”.
“I gotta say this man can shoot”, county Sheriff Darren Campbell said of Trump, who is licensed to carry a handgun in NY.
Trump recently faced a barrage of criticism when he attacked the family of a fallen Muslim American soldier. Women said they would vote for Clinton over Trump by a wide margin of 49% to 30%.
Critics accused him last week of inciting violence against Clinton in a remark about the right to bear arms, and media reports have swirled about a campaign in crisis and a candidate apparently incapable of reeling in crass remarks.
