Sabathia hammered as Blue Jays top Yanks 7-4

ROCKIES 12, NATIONALS 10 D.J. LeMahieu kept tormenting Washington with two hits, Gerardo Parra drove in four runs and host Colorado beat Stephen Strasburg. Three of New York’s four runs came on solo homers. Ezequiel Carrera had an RBI double, Darwin Barney had a two-run double and Russell Martin added an RBI single as Toronto became the sixth team to win five straight series against the Yankees in NY.

Earlier in the ballgame, Blue Jays media and fans had a frenzy over an altercation in the dugout between Donaldson and manager John Gibbons. “But we were overdue”. The law of averages was on our side.

That is very optimistic and probably a best case scenario, but that would theoretically have the Jays go about 20-10 against teams other than Boston or Baltimore.

The Yankees who built a 6-0 lead quickly saw it vanish and the Blue Jays with four runs in the sixth inning and with an eight-run eighth, took control and went on to a 12-6 win.

With Jose Bautista already on the disabled list, there was some concern when Josh Donaldson was removed after the sixth inning with what was described as a jammed thumb. The right-hander fanned him with his 104th and final pitch, a 96 miles per hour heater, and Donaldson flung his bat toward the Toronto dugout.

The Yankees bullpen showed no vigor, and the lineup failed to do any more damage the rest of the night. “I like what we have here”.

“Yeah, it’s insane. But I’ll be back out there in five days and be ready to go”, he said.

“[Tuesday] night was big for us”, said Donaldson. Gary Sanchez continued his hot stretch, going 2 for 3 with a solo home run in the second inning. He gave up three home runs in a game for the sixth time in his career. “So it feels good to join in”. The bad news was that he was, at the send of those two innings, trailing 3-0.

Happ then blew a 94-mile-an-hour fastball past the overmatched Mikie Mahtook to record the third out in a game that the Blue Jays would go on to score a convincing 7-0 victory.

Jays Suckage: Marco Estrada (-.233) for obvious reasons, and Michael Saunders (-.111) who didn’t reach base in his four highest leverage at bats. Starlin Castro has hit 114 times with 47 runs and 53 RBI. Devon Travis led off with a shot to the left of shortstop Didi Gregorius, who gloved it but slipped. It was liberally interpreted as a single. Headley threw to second in a late and unsuccessful attempt to force the speedy Travis. Both runners were safe.

Umpire: Plate ump Hunter Wendelstedt was hit by a foul tip from Brian McCann of the Yankees leading off the second inning. He stepped on third to get the first out, but his throw to first was off, and Tyler Austin couldn’t get it. In his past three starts, Strasburg has a 14.66 ERA (11 2/3 innings, 19 earned runs) with 24 hits allowed in that span.

Yankees fifth. Aaron Hicks lines out to deep center field to Melvin Upton.

Another strong game at the plate in support of another solid outing from J.A. Happ – who allowed four runs over 7.1 innings to become the first 17-game victor in the majors – ensured a happy send-off from the Bronx.

The AL East has four teams separated by just six and a half games and the Red Sox and Orioles are tied for second, one game back of the Blue Jays. He then proceeded to take out the bottom of the Yankee order in the ninth to complete the save, his 27th of the season.
