Former NFL star Darren Sharper gets 18 years in prison
The first two women making the courageous decision to hold Sharper accountable for his despicable actions led to multiple other women coming forward with their stories.

Before being indicted in Arizona, Sharper was arrested in California on charges of drugging and raping two women in that state.
Triche-Milazzo stated on Thursday that the courts “could not ignore the damage” Sharper inflicted on society and women in general, according to the Associated Press.
Prosecutors suggested a nine-year prison term for Sharper under a multi-jurisdictional plea deal, but Milazzo rejected it as too lenient in June. Subscribe to our daily newsletter for the latest in hair, beauty, style and celebrity news.
As part of his sentence, Sharper will also be required to pay a $20,000 fine, serve three years of supervised release and undergo sex offender rehabilitation treatment.
Before he was sentenced, Sharper and one of the women made emotional statements. The woman said Sharper was so arrogant and “twisted” that he kept attacking women even after he knew that he was being investigated.
If he had not been convicted, the woman said she would have never stopped pushing for Sharper to face justice.
“They didn’t deserve anything being a part of my heinous decisions”, Sharper said.
Yet with the guilty pleas from Licciardi and Nunez, Sharper never took the witness stand. Gibbens said later that the federal sentence won’t affect plea agreements in the four state courts.
An Oct. 13 date was scheduled for Licciardi and Erik Nunez, a second co-defendant.
Outside the courtroom, McMahon quietly asked the woman, “Are you ready to do this in October?”
Charges around the country involve nine victims, but Milazzo has said in court that there may be as many as 16.
Sharper has admitted to distributing drugs with the intent to commit rape.
Sharper was named All-Pro six times and chosen for the Pro Bowl five times during a career that included stints with the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings.
