El Chapo’s Son Kidnapped During Fancy Dinner

Investigators believe the druglord’s son was taken by a rival drug gang called the Jalisco New Generation Cartel.

Initial reports stated that as many as 16 people were abducted in the incident.

They had earlier said that one of them may have been another of Guzman’s sons, Ivan “El Chapito” (Little Chapo) Guzman.

The site says the photos, which local media reported were confirmed by officials, were taken from surveillance cameras in the restaurant and show the victims surrendering with their hands over their heads.

In May 2008, gunmen from the rival Beltran Leyva cartel killed Edgar Guzman Lopez, a son who “El Chapo” had with his third wife Griselda Lopez Perez.

Women at the celebration around 1 a.m. were released, and one man at the restaurant was reportedly able to escape.

Guzman’s Sinaloa drug cartel, named after his home state, smuggles cocaine from Colombia through Mexico to the United States.

Raul Benitez, a security specialist, said: “There is a war right now for control of the Sinaloa cartel and a central theme in that war is the issue of attacks on his family”.

Alfredo is known in the country for living a playboy lifestyle exhibited on social media with images of him posing with supercars, tigers and gold plated AK-47s. Guzman is awaiting extradition to the US.

If Ivan Archivaldo also turns out to be one of those taken, the kidnappers would have two of the sons rumored to be taking over parts of El Chapo’s empire. At least three of the others who were kidnapped are said to have ties with organized crime.

Jalisco Attorney General Eduardo Almaguer at a press conference that they confirmed the 29-year-old was kidnapped as eyewitnesses saw him at the resturant.

Seven gunmen entered the La Leche restaurant, located in downtown Puerto Vallarta, early Monday and kidnapped Guzman Salazar and his companions.
